College Relations


OKHR Student Scholarship Program

Type of Award:

Each year, OKHR will award scholarships of $1,000 value to two college students who have demonstrated scholastic achievement and a commitment to the human resources field.  In addition, the selected recipients will receive complimentary registration for the OKHR State Conference the academic year of their awarded scholarship.

Eligibility requirements:

Applicants must be current undergrad or graduate students at an Oklahoma accredited college or university.

Undergraduate:

Must have attained at least a junior standing at the beginning of the fall semester of the current academic year.

  • Must have declared a major, emphasis, or concentration in Human Resources. If the Institution does not offer a major, emphasis, or concentration in Human Resources, then a major in general business, management, or administration may be considered, if the applicant has completed or is currently enrolled in 6 credit hours of coursework in human resource management. The Scholarship Selection Committee reserves the right to assess any and all credit hours used to meet this requirement, and to determine if course content satisfies the requirement.
  • Must have earned a GPA in major of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be a member of an SHRM Student Chapter or of SHRM National during the current academic year. If not already an SHRM student chapter member or a member of SHRM National, must be willing to become a SHRM student “at large” member if the academic institution attended does not meet SHRM requirements for a student chapter.

Graduate:

  • May be currently obtaining MBA, Masters in Human Resources, or comparable graduate degree program, subject to the approval of the Scholarship Selection Committee.
  • Must carry a GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be a member of an SHRM Student Chapter or of SHRM National during the current academic year. If not already an SHRM student chapter member or a member of SHRM National, must be willing to become a SHRM student “at large” member if the academic institution attended does not meet SHRM requirements for a student chapter.

Applications instructions:

The application form, downloadable here or available online, must be typed and filled out completely and accurately.  Applicants are required to, per the instructions, attach a current resume, college transcript of all course work and two letters of recommendation.  Application packets must be emailed to .

Deadline:

Deadline for application submissions is January 1.

Scholarship Selection committee:

OKHR State Council Director, OKHR State Council Director-Elect, OKHR State Council Past Director, Secretary/Treasurer, OKHR College Relations, District Director-East, and District Director-West

Selection criteria and process:

The recipients will have demonstrated scholastic achievement and commitment to the human resources field.  A complete application submission is required, as well as a panel interview for the finalist will take place with the Scholarship Selection committee.

All applicants will be considered equally with no regards to race, ethnicity or demographic information.  Applicants will be judged independently on the basis of the applicant’s ability to meet the criteria as outlined.  If for some reason, the successful applicant become ineligible, an alternate will be selected to receive the scholarship.

Announcement of Winners:

The selected recipients will be determined and notified by March 31st.  The selected recipients will be recognized at the OKHR State Conference in April of that year.

Method of disbursement:

Recipients will receive their scholarship dollars in August/September, around the start of the fall semester.  The payment is contingent upon receipt of proof of registration for the fall semester.
