The mission of the Western Oklahoma Human Resource (WOKHR) Organization is: Promoting the HR profession through education and networking.

WOKHR is composed of emerging and seasoned HR professionals who continually strive to remain informed on federal and state compliance laws, strengthen their skills to perform beyond expectation, and learn best practices within the industries and businesses they serve. Through the business environment, they are actively engaged as strategic partners bridging economic development throughout the expanse of western Oklahoma.

WOKHR was established in 2003 when Western Technology Center’s Business Development Coordinator recognized a need to support and train area businesses involving human resource management. The first meeting was attended by five people followed with continual growth and development.  Today, WOKHR has influence with 34 companies/individuals impacting nearly 12,986 employees in the workplace. In 2009, WOKHR received their chapter affiliation with the Society of Human Resource Management. SHRM is the world’s largest HR membership organization devoted to human resource management; representing more than 300,000 members in over 165 countries. SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the United States and subsidiary offices in China, India and United Arab Emirates. SuperStar status was awarded to the WOKHR in 2010 for outstanding membership growth. WOKHR is also associated with the Oklahoma State Council for Human Resource Management and shares sisterhood with eleven other Oklahoma SHRM chapters and six student chapters.

Starting in 2010, nationally recognized certifications were offered through Western Technology Center to receive the status of a SHRM Certified Professional or Senior Certified Professional. The WOKHR chapter currently has 6 members with one or more of these prestigious credentials and continues to promote certification in the HR field.
