Bang for your Buck! A Personal Recap of the 2016 OKHR State Conference

OKHR_Blog_3I have often heard seasoned HR professionals ask if there is any value to attending the OKHR Conference based on their extensive knowledge and many years of experience, and I would say the short answer is, YES! After attending the OKHR Conference for several years now, and being a seasoned HR professional myself, I can tell you that year after year I always come away with valuable nuggets of wisdom and inspiration that help me to stay on the top of my game.

This year, hands down, my favorite breakout session was ‘You’re in the Hot Seat! How to Give a Deposition that Won’t Sink Your Case’ by Crowe & Dunlevy’s Labor & Employment Attorney, Michael Pacewicz. This session took you from beginning to end of what to expect in a deposition and how to properly prepare for it with an insider look at how the opposing council will try to trip you up and dig for information you might not otherwise share.  It was eye-opening as were many of the other sessions I attended.

The ending keynote on Authentic Communication by Craig Zablocki was absolutely on point and so engaging, energizing, and inspiring!  I wish I could have a little Zablocki alarm clock with some of his inspiration to start every day off right. (Craig, you ought to get your marketing people on that right away, and I want the first one!) Another equally inspiring speaker from the conference is Greg Hawks. He never disappoints.  In fact, there are so many great speakers at the conference every year, I cannot believe the OKHR team is able to get so much talent in one place at one time!

Of course, on top of all the great content, the conference is complete with invaluable networking opportunities and great vendors to shop around for resources such as HRIS systems, EAP providers, legal resources, benefits, and more. They all have some great swag too!  Most of us that attended left with some great gear from insulated cups to t-shirts to even cold hard cash!

So whether you are just starting out in this wonderful and ever-evolving HR profession or you are a seasoned pro, there is something for everyone at the OKHR State Conference.  I just wish I could clone myself to attend multiple breakout sessions at once because there are so many great ones to choose from, and I hate that I cannot see them all!
