"Head-On Collisions in the Workplace:

Religious Rights vs Other Employee Rights

Overview: America was founded by people pursuing the freedom to practice the religion of their choice. Now, more than ever, employees in the American workplace want to be able to pronounce and practice their faith at work. The challenge is that religious rights sometimes collide with other employee rights, triggering claims of harassment and hostile work environment.

This interactive session will explore how employers, HR professionals, and leaders can navigate these tensions while ensuring the workplace respects both religious freedom and inclusivity. We will examine how HR professionals can help supervisors find the right balance to allow employees freedom of expression while guiding and preparing leaders to enforce company policies and standards in their own areas.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the trends of religious expression in the American workplace

2. Gain knowledge of Supreme Court rulings on key legal cases where religious rights clashed with other employee rights in the workplace

3. Learn some best practices of how to respect religious beliefs while upholding anti-discrimination laws and workplace policies.

Takeaways:

1. Recognize workplace tensions related to religious expression, dress codes, accommodations and more.

2. Raise awareness of the impact of the legal landscape on real-world collisions in the workplace around religious rights.

3. Prepare to develop practical strategies supporting both religious expression and workplace inclusivity.
