Beyond Values: Building an Ethical Business Environment

Overview: 

Every employee brings to the workplace a unique view of right and wrong shaped by their background and experience. Beyond simple legal compliance or respect for an organization’s values, individuals’
adherence to their own moral belief system is the at the core of ethical behavior. In this one-hour presentation, Mike Coffey will explore the differences between compliance, values, and ethics; how
organizations can encourage ethical behavior; and ways to accommodate ethical differences in the workplace.

Learning Objectives:
1. The definition of “ethics”
2. The difference between compliance, values, and ethics.
3. The key role “corporate governance” plays in an ethical environment.
4. Understanding corporate social responsibility.
5. How employers can address ethical differences in the workplace.

Presenter: Mike Coffey, SPHR, SHRM-SCP


Mike Coffey, SPHR, SHRM-SCP is an entrepreneur, licensed private
investigator, consultant, and registered yoga teacher.
He is also president of Imperative, a background investigations and
due diligence firm helping risk-averse clients make better decisions
about the people they involve in their business.
Mike is the State Director-Elect for Texas SHRM. And each week, he
hosts the Good Morning, HR podcast.

A boxed lunch will be served for in-person attendees.
